I, like just about everyone else in 1996, assumed that Nada Surf was another challenger to Weezer's nerd rock crown. 99% of this assumption was based on the single from this album, "Popular," which was very Sweater Song-esque. Never mind that the rest of the album was more indicative of the true indie nature of Nada Surf, this band got pegged as Weezer clones early and it must've been hard to shake. High/Low is not quite as good as other things Nada Surf has done. It's still a very interesting piece of mid-90's paraphernalia, but if you want to know what Nada Surf is all about, I would suggest almost any other album.
