I think Saves the Day is the last emo band to be affiliated with the indie side of emo before it became a subgenre of punk. Of course they have an undeniable punk-influence in their sound, but they also bear a resemblance to Get Up Kids and Sunny Day Real Estate.
Through Being Cool is almost too straightforward an album. It lacks much of the nuance that the later Saves the Day albums had. Even so, Saves the Day blasts through the songs on this album with plenty of gusto and what they lack in nuance they make up for in unbridled enthusiasm. The band sounds like they are still a little young and naive, but it still makes for an enjoyable listen.
