The first half of this album is super duper great. I'll never have enough of "Long Train Runnin'" which is why I bought this album. The front half is rounded out with tracks like "China Grove" "Listen to the Music" and "Jesus is Just Alright." Every one of those tracks in not only Doobie Brothers gold, they're classic rock gold. Any classic rock station worth its salt will have those songs in rotation. The rest of the album doesn't feel like it lives up to the billing of "very best." The back half of the album feels like The Doobie Brothers were gearing up to launch Michael McDonald's solo career, a career that I was not a huge fan of. I am, however, a big fan of
this parody video.
