Jeff Buckley-Grace
Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is up there with Chanticleer's "Es ist ein Ros Entsprungen" as one of the most gorgeous pieces of music ever recorded. Jeff Buckley has a voice that wails like Robert Plant's and cries like Meat Loaf's. It's a shame he didn't have a chance to put more music to record more than he did. Or maybe it isn't. I wouldn't be the first person to make the case that the best thing Jeff Buckley (or any artist, really) ever did for his career was to die young and leave the world wanting more. Whatever his impact may have been if he had lived, he absolutely crushes this album. It rocks, it cries, it sooths, it rips, it drips, and it begs not to be ignored. Do I sound like a guy who is pouring it on a little thick right now? Yes. Yes I do.
