This album marked the first change in the Ash lineup with the addition of the talented and attractive Charlotte Hatherley. Nu-Clear Sounds finds Ash morphing and transitioning from the energetic teenagers they once were into the seasoned rock stars they would become. It's not necessarily a pretty transition. As a matter of fact, this is my least favorite Ash album. That isn't saying much when all the other Ash albums are fantastic in my view. Nu-Clear Sounds is not quite fantastic, and definitely not horrible. At times it sounds unfocused, but it has its moments, and there are a few great songs on the album. One noteworthy track included on the US version of this album is the title song to the film A Life Less Ordinary. Other tracks worth a spin are "Wild Surf" and "Folk Song."
