At the Drive In-Acrobatic Tenement

At the Drive In is one of the most gloriously dissonant bands to ever walk the face of God's green earth. Some bands try to hit that part of your brain that is pleased with harmonies based in thirds and fifths by crafting pure pop melodies (I love those bands) and some bands try to smash that part of your brain with a claw hammer. At the Drive In is a smasher for sure. With apocalyptic lyrics and clashing chords, they rock in a purely unconventional way. They're like a headache put to music. And yet, head trauma metaphors notwithstanding, they are 100% great. I could listen to them all day. Cedric Bixler-Zavala's voice so perfectly compliments the music and the music is so amazingly coherent despite throwing most music conventions to the wind that it is impossible for me to dislike At the Drive In. Acrobatic Tenement is their debut album and, like many other great bands, they knew exactly what they were doing from the get go. I recommend any and all of their albums.
