If there was one good thing my Dad ever did (actually there were many many good things he did. I often say that if I grow up to be half the man he is, I'll turn out just fine. Also, I guess I'm saying I haven't grown up yet. I'm 30 and I better get with it) it was giving me an appreciation of jazz. Few jazz musicians are as iconic and readily identifiable to the non-jazz listening public as Louis Armstrong. From his unique voice to his fantastic trumpeting, Satchmo is not a man you could mistake for anybody else. The album pictured on the left is one of many greatest hits compilations in the Louis Armstrong catalog. I loved all the songs here, but it left me feeling, "Aren't there more Louis Armstrong hits?" I feel like this album barely shaves a snowcone off the tip of the iceberg that is Louis Armstrong's career. Sure, I know it's only a single disc, but I can't help but feel they could have done more with it.
